By Jove I Think He’s Got It!

I ragged on Sen. Jeff McWaters for the shameless political posturing done in his so-called inaugural “Legislative Update”. Thus I was very amused to see this introduction to his second such update. (Emphasis added is mine.)

Throughout session I will be sending weekly updates on what is happening in Richmond. This email is my first, true “Update”. Please feel free to pass it along to your friends or have them sign up for this newsletter at www.jeffmcwaters.com.

We’ve had a busy and energy packed week full of pomp and circumstance, however now is the time to get to work. (The entire email is below the fold.)

Be still my heart! Could it not only be that my Republican legislator is reacting to communication from this lowly Democrat? And OMG, weekly updates?!?!!!! A Republican is actually planning to send out weekly updates?!?!!!!! And shit, he’s actually noted his visitors to his office last week.

One such group visiting was the Interfaith Center for Public Policy, who I joined for its Lobby Day last Tuesday. We were tailed by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and their article here mentions our visit with Sen. McWaters. The print version has a pic of our group to include my ugly fat self. Ugh! Luckily there’s no attribution. The Interfaith Center did an outstanding job with its Lobby Day activities. One of our lunchtime speakers was blogger extraordinaire Waldo Jaquith who is also the creator of Richmond Sunlight. The Interfaith Center hosts this terrific legislative tracking site.

It so nice to see folks working together to make the legislative process so accessible and transparent! Great work all!

And thank you, Sen. McWaters for starting to de-campaign your website. Yeah, no more Mitt Romney!

Dear Eileen,

Throughout session I will be sending weekly updates on what is happening in Richmond. This email is my first, true “Update”. Please feel free to pass it along to your friends or have them sign up for this newsletter at www.jeffmcwaters.com.

We’ve had a busy and energy packed week full of pomp and circumstance, however now is the time to get to work. Governor McDonnell has laid out the theme of his administration as creating a “Commonwealth of Opportunity” and all members of the General Assembly must help him with that vision.

Working together we must find ways to incentivize entrepreneurs and businesses to expand and create more jobs plus fund transportation while keeping the cost and size of government down. As promised in my campaign, my first bill as a Senator creates Tax Credits for small businesses with more than twenty-five employees. For each additional job created there is a $10,000 tax credit to be taken over 5 years. This bill is a small step towards helping entrepreneurs expand their businesses during these tough times. My second bill allows Active Duty Military the ability to use HOV lanes in Hampton Roads. This measure would be a preliminary and small step to help alleviate traffic congestion in Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

However, the biggest challenge this session will be rectifying our over $4 billion budget shortfall. I agree with the Governor that we must make some tough decisions and cut non-essential services rather than increase taxes. Virginians are making cuts in this tough economy, and now their government must do the same.

My first full week in the General Assembly was filled with hundreds of concerned citizens visiting the capitol. They met with my colleagues and I regarding issues important to them. It was great seeing so many of you from the beach during the inaugural activities and getting a chance to discuss the issues with you. With fifty days to go, I hope many more of you will come visit and share your concerns with me.

Have a safe weekend and look for my update next week.

Sincerely,

Jeff

Eileen, just bear in mind that there are a lot of Christians who vote Democratic occasionally or often, and your use of the “F” near God in the acronym is an affront to all of them.

    Fixed.

She is a foul mouthed bitter moron. Tell your hubby what I said.

Perhaps we should emulate commenter “Barry Says,” who hurls insults from the protection of anonymity.

I agree it is nice to see when politcians can put politics aside and work towards the good of the masses. Hopefully their good work will continue and they can be bipartisan in their approach to stop the bleeding in America all over the place right now.
