“Virginia Beach’s own”

Gov. Bob McDonnell’s school funding proposal would cost Hampton Roads schools more than $57 million this year.

“Virginia Beach would lose nearly $15 million under the updated formula, according to Fiscal Analytics.  Norfolk would lose about $9 million, Chesapeake would lose about $11 million, and Suffolk and Portsmouth would each lose about $4 million.  Northern Virginia schools would receive $128 million more in funding under McDonnell’s plan.”

I seem to recall local supporters arguing that electing “Virginia Beach’s own” would benefit the region.

Even local Republican Delegates are not pleased:

“Chesapeake Del. John Cosgrove wondered aloud what area of the state McDonnell, a former Virginia Beach delegate, used to represent. ‘Apparently Fairfax,’ said Del. Sal Iaquinto, R-Virginia Beach.”

I don’t understand the complaint. This is redistribution of wealth. Liberals and democrats should be all for this!

You know, Virginia Beach boasts a delegate who is the Chairman of the Education Committee and a senior member of the Appropriations and Transportation Committees in the House of Delegates. Election after election, this man runs unopposed, or virtually unopposed. The Virginian-Pilot repeatedly endorses him, because of his “experience.” He is a very nice man, and a reliable Republican vote. Other than that, what has he accomplished for Virginia Beach?

    Tata? The guy is nuts!

Also, as the Virginian-Pilot points out this morning, Virginia Beach has another delegate who has served since 1986, and is Chairman of the House Finance Committee. Delegate Cosgrove of Chesapeake is on the Committee on Counties, Cities, and Towns. Delegate Sal Iaquinto is also on Counties, Cities, and Towns, and was propelled into office as a top aide to the Governor, Bob McDonnell. What exactly have all their “experience” and “important committee assignments” done for their constituents?
