VB GOP “Leadership”

What zodialogical sign was Glenn Nye born under? Coz damn… the accidental good fortune he keeps getting handed is unbelievable!

“It is disappointing that the former chairman of the Virginia Beach Republican Party no longer feels he has a home in his own party”, writes 2nd district GOPper candidate Scott Taylor to the news that Kenny Golden has dropped out of the Republican nomination race to face Glenn Nye as an Independent. Way to split the Republican vote, Mr. Golden!

According to Virginia News Source, the charming current chairman of the Virginia Beach Republican Party, Gary Byler, is shitting in his pants. “Unglued? The 2nd District GOP is wrangling with bruised egos, defecting candidates, and a district leadership under internal attack”, they write.

There’s also news that former 2nd district GOPper candidate and former chairman of the Virginia Beach Republican Party Chuck Smith has carpet-bagged his way to the 3rd district to wrestle his way into being the GOPper nominee blessed with the good fortune of facing Rep. Bobby Scott in November. Bwaaaaa!!!

Don’t be so quick to think it will split the vote. Kenny Golden is pro gay civil union and pro choice, at least to the extent that that he doesn’t want abortions to be illegal, just unnecessary.

Also, unlike other Republicans, he doesn’t want to repeal the health care bill, he just wants to fix a few parts of it that are oversteps by the federal government.

There is a very real possibility Kenny will take lots of votes from Glenn Nye and Scott Rigell.

  2. William Bailey Says:

No voter is going to forget that he is a Republican… Any no dem is going to vote for him or Rigell. So a R split is what he is bringing to that race. JMO

  3. eileen Says:

I’ve heard Republican Golden speak a few times. He’s pretty intense, I’d almost say angry. At the bloggers conference at CNU he totally bashed Obama. And if he’s pro-choice, I’ll eat my hat. He’d have been run out of Pat Robinson’s hometown party a long time ago.

  4. Beach Resident Says:

Talk to some local GOP’ers. He won the chairmans race on a abortion vote. He believes everything the pro-life crazies do except he doesn’t think government should have a say in the matter.

The GOP had tried to run him out a few times, for that reason and the fact that hes more pragmatic than ideological. And yes, he is definitely intense, he was a ships captain/task force commander for his last decade in the Navy.

Don’t you want a congressman with fire in the belly? We have enough pansies like Nye and Rigell, though I have to give Nye credit for bucking his party. Although my gut tells me Pelosi counted the votes and let him vote NO.

    William,

I think you vastly overestimate the IQ of the average voter. Unless both campaigns paint a bullseye on him, all anyone will look at is his record and his stance on the issues.

  5. James Says:

Well at least we know both Republicans and Democrats don’t want Scott Rigell, I think the amount of money Rigell is about to spend will make your head spin. But he’s a fiscal conservative right?

  6. kingsmoothie Says:

Not a Rigell fan, but… being a fiscal conservative is about being fiscally responsible with regard to taxpayer money. His spending of his own money and the money given to him doesn’t necessarily translate into spending of taxpayer money.

Golden doesn’t have to take Dem votes away from Nye to hurt his re-election, he just has to grab up some independents and cross-overs Republicans. Could be interesting, but I suspect on election day there will only be two candidates left.

  7. GreatNeckProgressive Says:

Yeah, Nye and Golden. Once it comes out that Rigell cheated on his wife, he will be done for.

  8. Johnny Longtorso Says:

Kenny who? I’m sorry, I haven’t heard a damn thing about this guy. No way he has an impact beyond soaking up 1-2% in protest votes.

Also, how often do the Virginia Beach Republicans elect a new chairman? Between Kenny and Chuck the Carpetbagger, you’ve got two former chairs running for Congress. How many more are out there?

  9. Dave Says:

GreatNeckProgressive, that is not true. Do you think Rigell is stupid enough to run if he had that kind of skeleton in his closet? Wouldn’t it have already come out if that were true? The answer is no, Rigell isn’t stupid and yes, it would have come out already if there was a shred of truth to what you said.

  10. David Campbell Says:

It looks like there may be four conservatives on the 2nd district ballot this fall: Glenn Nye, Scott Rigell, Kenny Golden, and Doug Hutchison. They all agree on the major issues: opposing health care reform and climate change legislation.

Even so, I hope Virginia Beach Democrats will turn out and vote for Nye for two reasons:
    1) He will vote with the Democratic Party more often than any of the other alternatives.
    2) Keeping the seat in nominally Democratic hands helps retain a majority in the House and therefore control of committees and the legislative agenda.

Challengers to incumbents Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA3) and Rep. Randy Forbes (R-VA4) face long odds, but Scott and Dr. Wynne LeGrow deserve our support.

  11. Master Gunner Says:

David, that’s absolutely not true. They do not agree on those major issues.

  12. David Campbell Says:

Master Gunner: Perhaps I made some unfair assumptions about the positions of the candidates. Which of them favor the health reform bill that was just signed into law and which of them favor cap-and-trade climate change legislation that passed in the House?

  13. Master Gunner Says:

Yes, you are making unfair assumptions. These candidates and issues are far too complex for anyone to look at them through the black and white lens you are.

  14. David Campbell Says:

I asked a simple question. Rep. Nye had the opportunity to vote for a specific health reform bill and a specific climate change bill and he chose to vote against them. Would any of the other three candidates have voted differently?
