If Mizusawa vs. Nye, Then Levandoski vs. Van Hollen

Jay Ford at Alt Daily has been interviewing Repug candidates for the 2nd district. Check out his interview with Bert Mizusawa here.

Now I know this is a military town and family life carries extenuating circumstances but this strikes me as wrong… Mizusawa’s family lives in Fairfax. He obviously maintains a second home and feels rooted here as he grew up in Hampton Roads.

Why are we keeping hearing about these wonderful Republican hopefuls for office? Yes they appeal to me. But I am not going to vote for the Republican if these candidates fail.

The real contest is going to be between the eventual Republican nominee and Glenn Nye. Those who support some of those who come up short in the Republican primary should examine what they supported and how much of that is available with Glenn.

Will they only support the candidate who has the (R) after their name or will they support the candidate who really represents them?

    littleDavid-

The answer to that is a mixed bag, there is a large segment of people that have already stated that they will support Nye if Rigell is the nominee. There are even other candidates(notably Ed Maulback) that have openly stated that they will not support Rigell if he wins. This may not be a huge voting block, but may be able to make the difference in the race.

Rigell cannot beat up Obama(because of his donation), so he sticks to the NRCC’s anti-pelosi talking points. It is one of the few votes that most R’s disagree with Glenn Nye on. I have a feeling that Van Hollen is prepared to take on the eventual nominee with a few shots to the gut.

But to fully answer your question, yes there will be people that blindly vote Republican after seeing a few million worth of commercials, hell it’s probably how you’re going to get the “country club special”: The Virginia BeachRepublican nominee.

Yeah, I am not exactly a fan of Nancy Pelosi either. Think about it, the Speaker of the House comes from one of the most extremely liberal Congressional districts in the nation. If she does not deliver for them she could lose her seat in Congress even if she still would have enough votes within Congress to be Speaker. Hardly a great choice to serve as Speaker. Surely a more moderate voice could be found.

But I am still willing to stick with Glenn. I learned my lesson back when we had Republicans like Tom Delay in control. With Glenn, Nancy Pelosi might continue on as Speaker but at least Glenn caucuses with the Blue Dogs and there are enough Blue Dogs to influence things.

Within the Democratic Party there still exists some elements of moderation. It seems like moderation within the Republican Party no longer exists, or at least that those moderates within the party who still exist or on life support.

I was hoping that with recent losses the Republican Party would try to shift towards the center. This has not happened and the evidence seems to be that they are going to become even more extreme with the candidates they present to us.
