McDonnell’s “Reform” Agenda: Town Hall Meeting Tonight!
Judging by the emails filling my In Box, conservatives want to dominate the Governor’s town hall meetings so they can claim broad popular support for, and no opposition to, McDonnell’s conservative agenda. “Reform state government” and “build a strong jobs-friendly environment” mean eliminating regulations and programs to protect the environment, granting businesses the right to rip off and even threaten the health and safety of consumers while denying them recourse in the courts, and slashing funding for public education and programs that serve Virginia’s most vulnerable citizens.
We can’t let this happen. The Governor needs to hear that his right wing chums are not the voice of the people of Virginia.

If you hope to build successful coalitions with a broad base, posting a picture that depicts anyone who has been to a tea party event as having their head up their rear, is not the way to go about it. I am certain that some of the tea party participants hold strong views in support of the environment. Others strongly support liberty issues and still others may hold similar views to yours on smart growth initiatives.
Successful politics is about building coalitions, not alienating whole segments of the voter base and then trying to cram a monolithic agenda down the throats of whoever remains. Seek common ground and then build your organization upon that place.
Here are some suggestions for tonight:
1. Ask Bob to explain why his plan to privatize the ABC stores merely hands the operation over to the big multinational food store chains that are his political backers? Why have the Republicans formed a PAC to promote the handover to the big multinational stores, rather than having a plan that promotes individual, locally owned stores?
2. Ask Bob why his plan to hand over the operating rights to Virginia roads, will give his multinational backers at, Communist China owned, TransUrban, the right to charge Virginians tolls on our own roads, for the next thirty years?
3. Ask Bob why his plan to hand over the operation of the Port of Virginia, is a deal custom made for the Carlysle Group, so that Carlysle can control all of Virginia’s ports for the nest 20-30 years and use that monopoly to jack-up port fees?
