Righty Rigell

It’s all Glenn Nye’s fault, didn’t you know. Had he been paying attentions, says GOPper Scott Rigell, the Joint Forces Command would not be shuttering its operations and costing Hampton Roads thousands of jobs.

In typical hypocritical style, Righty Rigell limits the alleged inattentiveness to a Democrat. So knowing Repulsicans stay so fixed and attuned, what’s Reps. Randy Forbes and Rob Wittman’s excuse then?

What an egotistical doorknob!

How about, righty Glenn Nye? Good luck getting re-election after alienating your base. No point voting for a man who did not vote for HCR, unemployment or cap & trade. We should have primaried him from the left. Why did we not? We cannot send the message to the dem national leadership that we will keep loving, embracing, blue dog conserva dems who will not vote with Pelosi, Hoyer, Obama & Clyburn.

Robert: Perhaps someone should have challenged Rep. Nye in a primary, but it didn’t happen. The outcome would have been interesting. If he is re-elected, there will be another opportunity in two years.

This year, the only choice 2nd district voters have is Democrat Glenn Nye, Republican Scott Rigell, or independent Kenny Golden.

It is misleading to portray Rep. Nye as someone “who will not vote with Pelosi, Hoyer, Obama & Clyburn.” To date, Rep. Nye has actually voted with the Democratic Party 82.6% of the time. Will liberals really be happier with someone who will vote their way approximately 0.0% of the time?

Gates is right to try to reduce waste and improve efficiency at the Pentagon. JFCOM may or may not be redundant. The whole Virginia delegation united in a bipartisan effort to try to save jobs in our backyard. Then Republicans like Rigell, Forbes, and Wittman turn on their teammates and try to use the issue for partisan political advantage.

Rep. Nye successfully inserted a provision into the 2011 defense authorization bill passed by the House that would block funding for moving a carrier to Florida. Gov. McDonnell even sent him a letter thanking him for his “leadership on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

Just like a little kid in the school yard, pointing a finger and saying, “He did it!” what a dork.

Nye is terrible for the party. He’s losing support left and right, and really should have been challenged in a primary. Was there just no other candidate to step up?

  6. David Campbell Says:

DClark: If you think Nye is bad, Rigell or Golden would be much worse. If Democrats don’t turn out in November to re-elect Nye, we may end up with Rep. Boehner as House Speaker too.

Greetings from Virginia. Nope, I’m not home, I’m just passing through the western end of our state en-route to Upstate New York.

First off I wish to disclose that I potentially have a personal interest in the command’s closing. My daughter recently got a good paying civilian (she’s an engineer) position there.

Now, even with this obvious personal interest, I must say I am not automatically opposed to the closing of the command. I am not sure if the closing is justified or not. I will say that it would be hypocritical of me to demand that waste and inefficiency be removed from federal spending but then object because what is proposed only because it falls within my geographical area and could potentially affect my immediate family.

I will say that as I remember it, joint forces commands were established to help eliminate the difficulties the various forces had in trying to operate together. Each branch of the military operated as separate little kingdoms and during real life operational efforts like our invasions of Grenada and Panama it was discovered they had trouble operating together. Often they had to resort to local cell phone service to talk to one another because the advanced communications equipment they had was incapable of accomplishing it.

Perhaps such commands have achieved success and now that the goal has been reached they are no longer necessary. But I am wondering whether a football team would be smart to fire the quarterback when the team starts demonstrating they can score touchdowns. Just think how much money could be saved on the payroll! We’ve demonstrated the team can score, so the quarterback is no longer required, right?

Liberals who want to punish Nye by staying home on election day should consider the alternative.
