Glenn Nye: If I were king of the fore-e-e-est

The Virginia Organizing Project along with Health Care for America Now and local community members will be visiting Congressman Glenn Nye’s Virginia Beach office on Friday, March 26 at noon to remind the Congressman that there is more at stake with health care reform legislation than his political career. The group will present Nye’s staff with statistics on the local benefits of health care reform along with a medal to give the Congressman the courage to fight harder next time for the people of his district.

Local residents will highlight the personal benefits they will experience now that health care reform has passed:

• Matt Masterson of Virginia Beach will no longer fear for the health of his son with Diabetes who has been discriminated against due to pre-existing conditions.

• College student Amber Stanley (21) of Virginia Beach will be able to stay on her parent’s health insurance plan until she is 26.

• Mildred Nichols of Virginia Beach (80) will get help with her $100/month prescriptions and will no longer be stuck in the Medicare Part D donut hole.

Pilot LTEs: 5 Anti-Nye, 1 Pro-Nye

Most of the Letters to the Editor (LTEs) in today’s Virginian-Pilot are about health care and most expressing various degrees of disappointment over Rep. Glenn Nye’s “No” vote on the health care reform bill. Where are all the “atta boys” Nye was counting on?

Anti-Nye:
Man without a home
No place for Nye
No change from Drake
Democrat in name only
Politics Inc.

Pro-Nye:
Courageous vote

Glenn Nye To Vote “No” on Health Care

The Virginian-Pilot has his statement.

Ironic that he won’t be around to make the fixes he claims were needed.

UPDATE: Quoting a friend on Facebook… “Nye uses no Tricare exemption as a major justification for voting against HCR. I’m calling BULLSHIT. See this.

Another FB friend adds… “[H]is defense of KDs was false. The $16M was diverted from Medicaid but more than that was given to other areas in KDs where more people would be serviced.”

Prediction: Glenn Nye Votes “No” on Health Care Reform

I predict that Rep. Glenn Nye will vote against the following:

He’ll vote against improving coverage for 472,000 residents in his district with health insurance.
He’ll vote against the tax credits and other assistance that would help 136,000 families and 13,900 small businesses to afford coverage.
He’ll vote against improving MediCare, to include closing the donut hole, for 78,000 beneficiaries.
He’ll vote against extending coverage to 30,500 uninsured residents in his district.
He’ll vote against guarantees that 8,000 residents with pre-existing conditions can obtain coverage.
He’ll vote against protecting 1,200 families from bankruptcy due to unaffordable health care costs.
He’ll vote against allowance for 61,000 young adults to obtain coverage on their parents’ insurance plans.
He’ll vote against millions of dollars in new funding for 12 community health centers.
He’ll vote against reducing the cost of uncompensated care for hospitals and other health care providers by $18 million annually.

Kenny Golden’s Hilarious Facebook Ad

Good grief! What is with these Republican candidates for the 2nd district?!? Scott Taylor and bombs, now Kenny Golden and shooting up people, all trying to out *soldier* the others. I’ll venture to guess that Scott Rigell doesn’t have any military experience. What a riot?

Giving Up on Sen. Jim Webb

Sen. Jim Webb seems to be smoking whatever is in Bob McDonnell’s pipe. And so soon! The 2012 silly season is otherwise a long way off.

Optimistic folks will continue to appeal to him in hopes that he gets out of bed with Big Oil and Big Coal long enough to support the climate bill. Pfft… I’m more likely to win the Virginia Lottery.

I know he does great work in other areas like prison reform and I applaud that. But on environmental issues, he is no different that Governor McDonnell. He swallows everything the Fossil Fools feed him without question or thought. I never thought I’d use the word “coward” to describe Jim Webb, but what a frickin’ COWARD!

The truth hurts in more ways than one.

Drill, Virginia, Drill? Bye Bye Navy!

What part of the following statements does McDonnell and his cronies not get?

“… the special interest sale proposed for the Mid-Atlantic Region in late 2011 is not acceptable to the Department because of its incompatibility with the military training and testing conducted in this area” – Dept. of Defense, Nov. 27, 2006

“… the Navy requires unencumbered access to the full expanse of this operations area.”
“… the Department opposes oil and gas development activity in this OCS planning location.” – Dept. of the Navy, April 10, 2006

“Proposed Sale 220 lies within the Virginia Capes (VACAPES) Range Complex where Navy conducts significant training and test and evaluation activity. A portion of proposed Sale 220 overlaps a Navy identified Mission Critical Area (MCA) within Warning Area 386. Development of oil and gas structures in this MCA would be incompatible with Navy readiness and test activities conducted there.” – Dept. of the Navy, Jan. 12, 2009

“For safety reasons, the military is compelled to discourage certain oil and gas activities where such activities would clearly be incompatible with military missile flights, low-flying aircraft, and weapons testing and evaluation.” – DOI and DOD MOA July 20, 1983

And while we’re looking at that MOA, let’s not forget who is and more importantly who is NOT authorized to speak on behalf of the Department of Defense.

RNC’s “Evil Empire”

Wow! Apparently, there are two different varieties of Republican. On the one hand you have the garden-variety sheep who lap up on another spewed by Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. They little know how to spell “socialism” let alone know what it means. But hell, throw a bumpersticker on your car saying “Obama = Socialism” despite your ignorance.

But it’s a different story for Republican donors who actually engage and utilize the gray matter between their ears. Now the RNC is sheepishly back away from it big time. From

“It’s one to sit around a conference room or a bar with your colleagues and talk about stuff like this,” said Denver-based political analyst Eric Sondermann. “It’s another thing — a whole new level of both cynicism and immaturity to put it into a Power Point presentation to other donors and strategists. And it’s a level of stupidity to leave it lying around.”

Sondermann said the document surfacing can hurt Republicans in two ways — with Democrats, already suspicious of the conservative movement’s possibly racist underbelly, and with wealthy Republican donors, who are referred to as “ego-driven” and easily milked with offers of access and “tchochkes.”

Way to go, Repugs!

Scott “Do I have a Deal for You” Rigell

Ha! The DCCC sent me a funny email today. “Last time someone spoke out of the both sides of their mouth this much, they were trying to sell a Pinto”, writes Southern Regional Press Secretary Jesse Ferguson.

Scott “Blah, blah, blah, bad Obama” Rigell is a car salesman. Yet despite his opposition to all things Obama, he was all too happy to rake in the cash from the Feds for “Cash for Clunkers”… $450,000 worth of happy.

Rigell is also trying to sell himself as a dyed-in-the-wool Repug despite his $1,000 donation to Obama in 2008, albeit pre-primary and supposedly as a “protest donation” against Hillary Clinton. Bwaaa!!!

Nye to Reconsider his Bad Health Care Vote?

“Nine House Democrats indicated in an Associated Press survey Monday they have not ruled out switching their ‘no’ votes to ‘yes’ on President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, brightening the party’s hopes in the face of unyielding Republican opposition”. Could one of those 9 include our own Rep. Glenn Nye?

Salazar Can’t Take McDonnell Seriously

Here we go again!

I remember when I worked in the Loudoun Board of Supervisors office and attended VACO’s lobby days in Richmond. With the crap that former Delegate Dick Black was throwing down, it was downright embarrassing to be from Loudoun.

And when Interior Secretary Salazar convenes East Coast governors tomorrow, Virginia will be the laughing stock. They are gathering to discuss offshore wind, a renewable energy that doesn’t contribute to global warming.

As the Virginian-Pilot points out, “McDonnell said he hopes to get Salazar’s ear about offshore drilling at the summit”. Yes, and when McDonnell is done, Salazar will whisper in his ear. “You’re a fool”, he’ll say.

“For one thing, Gov. McDonnell, you hoodwinked Virginia voters with your trumped up dreams of jobs and revenues from drilling, but you can’t fool me. I know the truth. Plus, you’ve got a whacked out Attorney General there in Virginia, suing the EPA. The two of you obviously have your heads stuck in the sand. And you better get it unstuck if Virginia is going to stand any chance of coming to the stakeholders’ table on offshore wind.”
